MIGRAIN: semiotics

Part 1 

1) The audience could tell that character 1 is more of a good and quiet person, who is portrayed against stereo types society could have of him. However, character 2 is more of a outgoing, daring person who fits the narrative of the stereotypes that may be put against him.
2) The end of the film emphasises the belief that signs are polyesmic because of the use of sign language.
the language being used is juxtaposition because if how the main character is mute and is still preaching about the importance of communication.


Part 2

1) Ferdinand de sa ussure believed that the signifier and the signified are the 2 parts that make up a sign.
2) Polysemy means the coexistence of many possible meanings for a word or phrase.
3) When Barthes suggests that signs can become naturalised he means that signs develop a well known meaning to them so they are known by everyone.

2) Icons and indexes are important in media texts because they allow the audience to think and be engaged.
3) Global brands may avoid symbols in their advertising because audiences from other countries may be confused or not know what certain symbols mean.
4)  This product failed because of the promotion of spiking peoples food which can kill or seriously injure someone.
5) This product succeeded because it doesn't use any controversial lines or images, and uses an appealing image for the product with a good caption.
