MIGRAIN: reading an image: media codes

 


Technical codes:

- monochrome
- editing
- facial expressions adds intensity
- stage shot = direct address
- stern expression
- highlights eyebrows are hidden 
- collage of 2 images stitched together = present and past

Written and verbal codes:

- anchoraged text has Os filled in 
- symbolic of gunshot wounds he has faced
- title and slogan = reflection of his past = same line but mirrored
- limited edition product = unclear what's being advertised 


Symbolic or non-verbal:

- facial expressions = angry and serious
- links to identity
- dull colour scheme = black and white
- links to crime/black history
- slogans show confidence and strength
- jewellery shows product of success = idol to others = reinjoycing  capitalism of ideology 
- finger prints show his crime/history
- logo associates celebrity culture and identity
- fashion brand 80/90s

Narrative:

- enigma: slogan and prints link
- unaware of the back story
- black and white monochrome: mysterious story
- action code: police involvement and 50 cent identity
-'no plan b' = uncanny future tragedy









Technical codes:

- appealing image of inside the snickers 
- high key lighting on the snickers
- layers shown with extra lighting bounced off it to be more appealing to audience
- texture of chocolate and inside edited to show more detail

Written or verbal codes:

- slogan in bold and big
- satisfies at bottom 
- persuade the reader
- hungry the biggest word
- trying to antagonise the reader to buy snickers when their hungry
- snickers wrapper 

Symbolic or non-verbal codes:

- bold font on text
- bright colours
- chocolate brown backrgound
- lighting reflecting off caramel
- lighting reflecting off peanuts
- makes it more appetising
- slogan in all caps to attack the audience
- so the audience reads it

Narrative codes:

- what is the layer under the caramel
- what texture is it
- makes the audience question the layer
- makes the audience want to find out
- what does it taste like
